Production Kia EV3 shows up for the first time

Kia has shared the first official teasers of its upcoming small electric crossover, the EV3. It debuted a year and a half ago as a concept car (see video) and is now getting ready to enter the market.

The official launch date is May 23. The pricing hasn’t been announced, but unofficial sources claim it could start from as little as $30,000.

Based on the images, it looks like the production-issue EV3 isn’t much different from its conceptual predecessor at all. You can take a close look at its headlights and taillights, as well as the trapezoid c-pillar detail that the concept had as well. The wheel arches and the rear spoiler are only partially visible, but look no different from those of the prototype.

The interior, on the other hand, can be expected to look more traditional than that of the show car from 2022. Specifically, we suppose that Kia will build the EV3 on its E-GMP platform (it’s currently used for all Hyundai-Kia EVs). To keep the costs down, the power architecture on board will likely get downgraded from 800 to 400 volts. Kia currently has two battery designs in its portfolio – rated at 58 and 77.4 kilowatt-hours – and we expect both to be available.
