Honda announces 7 new EVs for the next few years

The Japanese automaker is targeting complete electrification by 2040, and this is what it plans to introduce next.

In 2026, the marque will introduce the first three electric cars from a new lineup called “0 Series”. According to the official presentation, it will include a mid-size crossover SUV, its compact-sized counterpart, and a flagship saloon with a futuristic design. The latter was demonstrated at the latest CES show in Las Vegas.

The info comes from Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe, who says the company firmly believes in the future of electric transports and remains resolute about gradually discontinuing ICE cars. In his latest interview, he admitted that many automakers had expected the EV adoption to proceed faster – but it does nothing to invalidate the fact that electric transports are the future.

In 2027, the company plans to launch a large seven-seat SUV running on battery power. Two more compact SUVs and a small sedan are also scheduled for release sometime before 2030.

Honda intends to utilize its Formula 1 racing experience in designing its electric lineup. In particular, the company hopes to make the next-generation EVs approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the first-gen ones while further reducing drag. In practical terms, the engineering department is targeting at least 483 km (300 miles) of range per charge according to the strictest measurement standard (the North American EPA). United States will also be the first market where these EVs will be introduced, although they will ultimately go on sale worldwide.

In China, the company plans to continue expanding its recently introduced Ye lineup. Three more vehicles will debut under that branding in the country until 2027. The details are unavailable, but Honda says it should be able to go all-electric in China by 2035 at the latest – sooner than anywhere else in the world.

The corporation’s other strategic priorities include reducing battery costs by 20% and manufacturing costs by 35%. This should help with making the EVs themselves more attractive to buyers.
