$15k+ buys you a delicious mix between Volvo wagon and Chevy sports car

Many Frankencars – cars born by mixing and matching parts of multiple completely different vehicles – exist solely because someone in the tuning scene said “why not”. This crossbreed between a Volvo 740 GLE and a Chevrolet C5 Corvette might look like a Frankencar, but it’s actually an extremely well-thought-out and well-appointed custom build bringing plenty of performance to the road.

Laconically dubbed the Volvette, the 35-year-old Swedish wagon rides on C5 Corvette underpinnings. This includes the suspension, albeit with some nice modifications, the engine, the six-speed manual transmission and the brakes, as well as the limited-slip differential. A roller camshaft, GenX cylinder heads and an Aviaid dry sump system push the performance of the stock 5.7-liter V8 beyond its standard 355 (350 hp / 261 kW), but the listing doesn’t provide any dyno measurements.

Despite the extensive modifications, the Volvo stays a true sleeper on the outside, almost passing for a regular retro car. It also has a fairly stripped interior – no radio, AC or rear seats, but a roll cage and a redesigned transmission tunnel.

The Volvette project started in 2014 and took nearly 2,000 workhours to complete. It’s up for sale on Bring-a-Trailer right now with a day left on the clock and the bidding at $15,000.
