Another Ford Mustang restomod wears Gulf Racing colors to an auction

A comprehensively restored and modernized 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback will cross the auction block at Mecum Florida on July 12. There are no estimates yet, but with a powerful engine swap and a pristine Gulf Oil livery, the bidding is liable to venture deep into six-digit territory.

Starting with the most important part, this classic ‘Stang packs a modern, custom-built 5.0-liter V8 under the hood. Known as the Aluminator XS, it makes use of Mahle forged pistons, an 11:1 compression ratio and other nice upgrades to push over 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) to the rear wheels. The six-speed manual transmission comes from Tremec, the wheels from CCW and the tires from BF Goodrich.

To ensure that the retro car handles more like a modern one around the track, further upgrades included Griggs Racing suspension and Wilwood brakes. The interior is also a mixture of classical and modern design cues with a Vintage Air HVAC on board, a Sony head unit wired to a subwoofer, leather-clad bucket seats and safety harnesses. There is no rear seat row in the ’68 Mustang Fastback, but this one still manages to accommodate a roll cage and a fire extinguisher.
