Adrian Newey set to leave Red Bull, but not until his hypercar is complete

Red Bull Racing has officially announced a termination of contract with CTO Adrian Newey, one of the most famous Formula 1 engineers around. Newey is set to leave in Q1 2025, but will make every effort to finish the team’s first street-legal hypercar, the RB17.

The engineer has worked for the team for nearly two decades now, starting in 2006. He has brought Red Bull Racing six Constructors’ Cups and has without doubt played a role in its racing drivers scoring seven championship titles throughout these years. But, as Newey himself says, time has now come to set new goals and move ahead.

Neither the real reasons for Newey’s departure nor his plans for the future are known. According to Formula1 citing insiders, he may want to stay in the F1 world by teaming up with Ferrari or Aston Martin. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be too surprising if the 65-year-old man decided to retire instead, putting a rich career in motorsports behind him.

In the meantime, work is nearing completion on the Red Bull RB17. Newey says he will be dedicating most of his time to finalizing the hypercar project, but will also keep supporting the team through this season. The team’s next year racecar will be brand-new and built without his involvement.
