Huawei announces an electric seven-seat SUV

Tech company Huawei has partnered up with car manufacturer Chongqing Sokon (China) to launch a seven-seat, battery-powered crossover SUV named Seres SF7 on the domestic market before the end of 2021.

The car may debut as soon as August, and should reach the showrooms across China later this year. Details are lacking right now, but the company makes it clear that the coupe-like mid-size SUV it showcased under the same name three years ago will not be a major inspiration for the new model.

Chongqing Sokon currently has two crossovers on its lineup, the Seres 3 and the Seres SF5 (refer to our gallery for examples). The former comes based on the same chassis as the gas-powered Dongfeng Fengguang E3, but packs an electric motor. It is also not particularly popular in China, enjoying better sales in Germany. The latter is a serial hybrid (range extender) packing a 1.5-liter turbo four-pot and either one or two electric motors.

The SF5 was the marque’s first model to become available through Huawei dealerships, so it would make sense for the SF7 to follow suit.
