Triton-EV rolls out a hydrogen truck after a month of development

Mere 35 days from the announcement, U.S.-based startup Triton-EV has unveiled a hydrogen fuel cell-powered semi truck that you can also charge up and use as a regular electric car. The production model is expected to cost between $150,000 and $250,000.

The same company announced an SUV named the Triton Model H in April, and is now collecting pre-orders at 100% pre-payment to the tune of $140,000. The off-roader only exists no 3D renderings right now, but the startup claims it will boast 1,521 PS (1,500 hp / 1,119 kW), an enormous 200-kWh traction battery and over 1,100 kilometers (685+ miles) of range. Judging by the pics, the car utilizes the chassis of the latest Cadillac Escalade LWB.

In turn, the semi truck comes based on the Freightliner Cascadia platform and has a redesigned front fascia along with a different interior. According to the description, it will only use hydrogen fuel cells for propulsion when you choose so. Unlike Nikola, Triton-EV does not rely solely on hydrogen power due to the lacking infrastructure and offers a large chargeable battery as an alternative. The battery comes rated for 300 miles (483 km) of range with the trailer weight up to 100 metric tons (220,000 lbs).

The launch timeframe remains unannounced for the truck. The Model H SUV should start shipping in several months, the company reports.
