Airstream Basecamp 20X offers four beds, REI accessories

U.S.-based camper manufacturer Airstream is mostly known for producing value-oriented compact trailers for just two adults, but its latest model – the 20X – accommodates four. Here’s what it offers and how much it will set you back.

The newcomer is 20 feet, or 6.1 meters, long – 4 feet, or 1.2 meters, longer than the company’s other travel trailer, the 16X. In order to accommodate a family with children in a tight space like this, the company had to redesign the entire interior. The new beds reside in the roomy dining area at the front end (when it’s not used, of course). Like before, there is a water purification system on board, a floor-based cooler, a kitchen with two burners for cooking, and a full-fledged bathroom. Options include a bio-toilet, an AC and an off-road package, which also includes solar panels and a battery pack for greater autonomy out in the wild.

Since the 20X REI Edition is a collaboration with a company named REI, there are lots of branded accessories on the list – tableware, all kinds of organizers and storage boxes, and spruce-tinted trim accents.

The minimum price amounts to U.S. $62,400 – just $9,500 more than the 16X costs. Weighing just 1.6 metric tons (3,500 lbs), the camper should be easy to tow with a light pickup truck or SUV.
