The AutoTopNL team has gotten its hands on an Alpine A110 R and took the French sports car out for a drive down a German speedway to see if lived up to the hype.
The R is the topmost spec in the A110 lineup. As important as power is for high-end acceleration, the biggest thing going for this particular contender is curb weight. Owing to extensive and generous use of carbon fiber throughout, the car tips the scales at mere 1,082 kilos (2,385 lbs). The same lightweight material is used for the hood cover, air intake shrouds, wheels, engine housing, and more.
Power is supplied from a 1.8-liter turbo engine rated at 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. The spec sheet states that the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time amounts to 3.9 seconds and the top speed lies as high up as 285 km/h (177 mph).
But will the coupe actually be able to reach its peak acceleration on an autobahn? Find your answer in the video.
