Wooden Bentley Continental GT costs almost the same as the real thing

A rather unique Bentley Continental GT is up for grabs in Florida right now. It lacks a powertrain, but is made almost completely out of natural wood. The asking price of $98,900 is on par with the current prices for well-used originals, making one wonder what the justification could possibly be.

An uncredited creator of the wooden car based it on the third-generation Continental GT that was in production in 2017–2024. They managed to pull off a convincing radiator grille, a neat front bumper with air intakes and contrasting bezels around the lights at both ends. The proportions are a bit off in some places, but on the whole the replica looks like a solid, professional work.

There is no engine under the hood, but that doesn’t mean the car is immovable. In fact, the listing mentions a functional steering mechanism linked to the axles and the wheels. This means that you can get inside the replica and steer it as long as someone kicks it into motion (could be useful at auto shows).

There’s also the question of weight. While the original Continental GT W12 is by no means a lightweight vehicle with a curb weight of around 2.5 metric tons (5,500 lbs), the replica isn’t exactly featherweight, either. It comes in at 900 kilos (2,000 lbs) or so, according to the listing.

One last thing worth mentioning is its somewhat subpar condition. Autosport Group points out cracks in the wood, deteriorating glue joints and some wear in the cabin. That being said, we would imagine this Bentley being much easier (and cheaper!) to maintain once you give it a good polish and a lacquer coat.
