Drop your jaw at this insane 16-cylinder BMW i8

Team Edlinger (Germany) took a BMW i8 coupe and turned it into a hill climb racing projectile, replacing the stock powertrain with a quartet of high-end motorcycle engines.

As you may remember, the stock i8 utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit rated at 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW). The build seen here gets rid of it in favor of four BMW HP4 bike motors. Each one has a full liter of displacement and revs up to 14,800 RPM. The combined output to the wheels maxes out at 880 PS (868 hp / 647 kW).

Major modifications were made to the chassis and the body as well. The car now has six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston ones at the rear. All wheels are suspended on Sachs adjustable shocks. As for the aerodynamic kit, Edlinger says it created it from scratch, The Drive reports.
