BMW pledges to keep the current 4-Series & M4 around until 2030

The BMW 4-Series coupes will enjoy an unusually long lifespan, an insider on the Bimmerpost forum claims. While not official, it sounds reasonable enough considering the popularity of this generation.

The source insists that the 4-Series Coupe and Convertible will both stay in production through June 2029. The Gran Coupe will allegedly retire a year before that.

The entire 4-Series, including the sporty M4 lineup, received a facelift last year. It also got another minor update this September, gaining 18 horsepower and 40 Newton-meters of torque across the entire 3.0-liter I6 model range. Some of us speculated that the next generation might be ready for prime time in March 2026, but the Bimmerpost leaker claims it will be yet another facelift mainly aimed at ensuring full Euro-7 compliance, especially for the company’s diesel engines still being offered in Europe.

The same source says that the 3-Series sedan and Touring will drop out of production sometime between October 2026 and February 2027. The next generation of the 3-Series will allegedly be announced in late 2026. The company plans to divide this lineup in two: the traditional ICE sedan running on refreshed CLAR platform and the innovative BMW i3 based on Neue Klasse underpinnings like the recently introduced iX3. A gas-only M3 and its superior full-electric counterpart will also be offered, the insider says.

BMW has yet to comment on its plans regarding the 3- and 4-Series. A representative of the company let it slip a while ago that, while the M3 was still envisioned as an ICE car, the M4 coupe was ripe for going all-electric. These plans may have changed since then, so we suggest waiting and seeing.
