Automaker BYD has shared the first official photos of its next EV: Qin L, which represents a long-wheelbase version of the currently available Qin Plus sedan and could be coming the market with two hybrid powertrain options. The full reveal is planned for later this year, AutoHome says.
The images suggest that the Qin L will not differ from the Plus version significantly. Granted, it is still clad in camo, but we have already seen the spy shots where it looks identical to the Plus except for a new front air intake insert and possibly different DRLs.
The L version is expected to be over 4.8 meters (15.75 feet) long and have around 100 mm (4 inches) of extra wheelbase length. While not much, it should translate into more legroom for the rear seat occupants.
Rumor has it that the Qin L will ship with two DM-i hybrid powertrains to choose from, both based on the same 1.5-liter petrol engine. The key difference is in the battery size. The more affordable 10.08-kWh spec will allegedly cover 60 km (37 miles) per charge at most, while the 15.87-kWh spec will cover up to 90 km (56 mi). That said, these are all rumored figures; all details remain to be confirmed by the company.
The standard BYD Qin Plus ships with the two battery sizes mentioned above. Its IC engine produces 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW), while its e-motor adds another 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW). Prices in China start from 99,800 Yuan.
