Changan Uni-Z bows in China

Changan has begun to unveil the next entry in its Uni lineup: the Uni-Z. Based on the size, the SUV should slot in between the Uni-T and Uni-K models. It will start from around 150,000 Yuan and be available with two powertrain options in China.

According to the manufacturer, the letter Z references Generation Z and simultaneously symbolizes our technology-driven future. The car itself is a mid-size crossover that’s 4.730 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall with 2,795 mm between the axles.

It shares most of the styling with the rest of the Uni lineup, but looks slightly more aggressive thanks to a large radiator grille and Y-shaped bumper inserts at both sides. The headlights are slimmer than on any other Uni car, and a light stripe can be seen between the taillights.

Inside, the Uni-Z has separate dash and infotainment displays (unlike the Uni-T with its merged display). The diagonal sizes are pending, but on the photos, the digital dash looks much smaller than the head unit.

Elsewhere, the crossover has a joystick selector on a laconic transmission tunnel, a two-spoke steering wheel and a glowing light insert behind the display near the windshield. It looks like a part of a smart ambient lighting system capable of changing light color and intensity based on the driver’s actions.

For the powertrains, Changan offers a normal 1.5-liter turbo engine rated at 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW) and a hybrid system based on a same-size engine de-boosted to 98 PS (97 hp / 72 kW). The remaining parameters remain to be announced.

Rumor has it that the new Changan Uni-Z is actually a rebadged and reworked Oshan Z6 (see video). The latter benefits from a petrol-electric powertrain rated at 279 PS (275 hp / 205 kW).
