C8 Corvette Z06 teased with 800 HP

The factory-issue Chevrolet Corvette C8 packs 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts), sprints from nothing to 100 km/h (60 mph) in three seconds flat and doesn’t hit its speed limit until 312 km/h (194 mph). Despite this, the company dares announce what it calls a ‘performance version’.

Called the Z06, the ultimate Corvette is expected to arrive packing around 800 hp (596 kW) under the hood. We aren’t being liberal with the word ‘ultimate’: the car is slated to become not just the fastest-going Corvette, but also the single most powerful Chevrolet vehicle in the entire history. The company considers giving it the twin-turbocharged Cadillac Blackwing V8 engine. The previous-gen Z06 sourced around 650 hp (485 kW) from a similar mill.

According to Chevrolet, the C8 Z06 will benefit from a 10-speed DCT transmission, whereas the standard-issue sports car makes do with its 7-speed counterpart. A manual transmission just might be optionally available as well.
