Minnesota tuner impresses SEMA audience with Rat-Looked Chevy El Camino

Restomodding is an extremely expensive and time-consuming hobby. Simply restoring a vintage car may easily cost you tens of thousands of dollars, and the amount rapidly plunges into six-digit territory with such extras as engine swapping or deep styling. On the other hand, you get the media talking about you non-stop, and it counts.

The masterpiece you see here has rolled out of the In The Weeds Hot Rods (ITW) garage, Minnesota, USA. Don’t be fooled by the rusted, almost completely decayed ‘jalopy’ exterior – this is what you would call the Rat Look. All the rust, all the patina and dirt are just there for show. The car itself is in peak technical condition.

The body stems from a 1959 Chevrolet El Camino (hence the name: ‘Hulk Camino’), but the chassis is custom-built, and the engine is a 7.0-liter supercharged V8 sending around 800 hp (600 kW) to the wheels.

Other notable features include the Dana 60 rear axle, Monster 700 R4 transmission, American Racing wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires, Wilwood brake calipers, and a folding top.
