Chevrolet has properly announced the fifth generation of the Silverado 1500. It trades the familiar 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 options for new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engines said to be more efficient. The production starts this fall, with the sales scheduled for late 2026.
The new powertrain lineup uses the latest revision of the Small Block architecture by General Motors. Chevrolet has yet to supply any specifics, but unofficial sources claim that the smaller of the blocks outputs around 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) naturally aspirated, while the larger one manages 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) without any kind of forced induction.
The TurboMax 2.7-liter gasoline four-pot and the Duramax 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo diesel carry over seemingly unchanged. The only difference is that the TurboMax now comes bundled with a 10-speed transmission instead of the old eight-speed one. Like before, RWD and AWD variants are freely available.
The 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 stays recognizable on the outside despite the fact that most of its body panels are all new, redesigned from scratch for efficiency. It also features main headlight units below the DRLs rather than above, new taillights, and better-defined wheel arches.
The interior has arguably changed the most in this generation. Things like a 12.2-inch digital dashboard and a 16.3-inch infotainment system are included as standard, and an 11.5-inch front passenger screen is listed under options. Same goes for a digital rear view mirror and a heads-up display.
Last but not least, the 2027 Silverado 1500 lineup will be made available with ZR2 and Trail Boss packages for off-roading enthusiasts. Both include a suspension lift kit and some meaty tires, while the ZR2 additionally receives upgrade shock absorbers and front/rear diff locks.
