Datsun Sunny gets turned into a work of art

The truck version of the Datsun Sunny family car emerged in Japan around half a century ago, and only few examples have survived the test of time. This one did, and became a splendid restomod in the process.

Changes begin at the front end, which now wears a Hakotora styling kit by 09racing. With the aftermarket parts on, the nose of the pickup looks a bit like that of the old Nissan Skyline popular on the verge of the 1960s and 70s. The suspension is all-new and air-cushioned with easy height adjustment on the go, while the arches house 14-inch AutoStar Kanji wheels with a floral spoke ornament.

Further mods include hood-mounted side mirrors – like on luxury limos of the past – and flared fenders. Inside, Cobra Nagaro seats wrapped in leather accompany a Momo steering wheel and a modern audio system.

Surprisingly enough, power for the build comes from a stock 1.2-liter non-turbo engine rated at just 71 PS (70 hp / 50 kW) and 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) of torque. Then again, it could very well be adequate for a truck barely 3.84 meters (12.6 feet) long and weighing just 800 kilograms (1,760 lbs) minus liquids and the driver.
