De Tomaso P72 to get Mustang GT engine

De Tomaso officially announced its P72 supercar in July, but its specs remained unknown – until now.

As it turns out, the De Tomaso P72 will ship powered by the five-liter supercharged Ford Mustang GT V8 rated at 700 hp (522 kW) and 825 Nm (608 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission will be six-speed manual.

This is not the first time De Tomaso uses this particular engine model, some earlier examples being the Mangusta, the Pantera and the P70. However, the P72 receives the mill with an added Roush supercharger.

The car comes based on the carbon-fiber Apollo Intensa Emozione chassis and is said to combine retro looks with modern design touches.

De Tomaso intends to produce 72 units of its P72, priced at around €750,000 each.
