Failing Ram TRX gets “fixed” to 900 horsepower

Mr. Coots, a car enthusiast from the United States, hadn’t even covered 28,000 kilometers (17,000 miles) in his Ram 1500 TRX before its engine failed. The 6.2-liter supercharged V8 started rattling and dropping power at random. Rather than go to a service center, Mr. Coots turned to tuners for help.

Late Model Racecraft extracted the engine from its bay and sent it to its powertrain shop for fixing. It was subsequently restored to the stock 712 PS (702 hp / 524 kW) and 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque – which was already good as far as the owner was concerned – but LMR then decided to tune it up some more. After obtaining the permission from Mr. Coots, they introduced a cold air intake, a bulky new supercharger, a booster fuel pump and improved bearings, among other things.

When all was installed and tested, the Ram slammed the dyno stand with 888 PS (877 hp / 653 kW) and 996 Nm (735 lb-ft) of torque. Note that the horsepower numbers quoted were measured at the rear wheels, meaning the crank got more than 900.

No pricing details were released, but LMR stressed that only the necessary modifications were made. This means that the pistons, the connecting rods, the crankshaft, the manifolds and the catalytic converters stayed stock. It’s kind of impressive how well the 1500 TRX handles extra output, honestly.
