Ferrari will begin shipping its first full-on electric supercar in history in 2025, CEO Benedetto Vigna told Automotive News in an interview. He pointed out that driving it would be ‘very emotional’ unlike Tesla, which was apparently only suitable for ‘getting from point A to point B.’
Vigna promised to keep all the key Ferrari traits and handling experience alive in the all-electric flagship that’s to come, no matter how challenging it may be. He mentioned multidirectional acceleration, engine sound, braking efficiency and other factors as essential. ‘These will not change with the motor becoming electric,’ he said.
Commenting on Tesla, he wrote off the brand as too ‘practical and utilitarian,’ but admitted that its influence on the automotive trends of today could not be underestimated. According to him, the successes of Elon Musk’s company were a major wake-up call for the rest of the industry, accelerating decision-making and giving a jolt to the market as a whole.
Ferrari patented its first all-electric vehicle last year along with submitting a number of sketches and drawn schematics to a patent bureau – you will find them in the gallery below. Judging by these, the company is looking to design a coupe with something resembling a mid-engine (mid-motor?) layout.
