Hennessey Performance has officially started the production of three-axle trucks based on the Ford F-150 Raptor. You can order one now for U.S. $500,000, which admittedly looks a bit insane considering that the engine – contrary to all expectations – remains stock.
The truck itself is not a cheap one, starting from around $110,000 in the United States. Still, what does that premium of nearly four hundred grand give you? Let’s see: a third driven axle, 50% more road grip (per the tuner), Fox Live Valve shocks and a 3-inch (76mm) ride height boost.
It is clear that the pickup becomes more practical with a bed extension from its original 5.5 to 8 feet (from 1.67 to 2.4 meters). Both bumpers are new, too, there are off-road-focused LED lights installed, and the body wears Hennessey graphics to remind everyone that you can afford it.
What is really unexpected is that the supercharged V8 under the hood continues to churn out its usual 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW). Hennessey almost always puts the engine front and center in its builds. It’s not like the power isn’t enough, but the company does mention that the modded truck tips the scales at a cool 6,500 pounds (3 metric tons). With a beast of a machine like that, you will want every bit of extra hp.
Alright, but what’s your take on it? Would you ever buy one if you had the money?
