RTR-tuned Mustang is faster than the GTD and only half as expensive

RTR Vehicles has unveiled its own take on the Ford Mustang. Dubbed the Spec 5, it commands over 880 horsepower and comes in a batch limited to 50 units. Prices start from U.S. $160,000.

The base car, a seventh-generation Mustang, gets a Whipple Stage 2 supercharger kit alongside a racing-grade intercooler, an ECU remap and a new exhaust system. The company promises at least 882 PS (870 hp / 650 kW) and 895 Nm (660 lb-ft) of torque at the crank. Customers can choose between six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic for the transmission.

Further modifications include 30-way adjustable coilovers at the front end, new shock absorbers at the back and heavy-duty sway bars at both ends. 20-inch RTR Aero 5 Evo forged wheels deliver the power to the asphalt, and Brembo six-piston calipers with two-piece discs at the front end ensure adequate deceleration.

For its 15+ years in business, we haven’t seen RTR Vehicles offer so much as a complete body kit or a full interior overhaul. The Mustang Spec 5 seems like an exception, because it wears extensive and complex aero – a front splitter, side and quarter-panel splitters, a reshaped front bumper and more. The aftermarket upper front grille flaunts backlit air intakes, and customers looking for more exclusivity are invited to pick bespoke colors for most components.

Likewise, the interior looks gorgeous with Recaro bucket seats, ribbed details and Alcantara on the pillars. The dash bears a plaque with the signature of Vaughn Gittin-Jr., the owner of the company.

It is well understood that not everyone gets the idea of handing over 160 grand for a Mustang, but Ford’s closest offering – the extreme Mustang GTD – starts from $326,000 before options. That’s more than twice as much.
