Ford Transit Connect arrives in Europe, sales to begin in summer

Ford has expanded its European light commercial transports lineup with a new Transit Connect minivan. It will arrive this summer in two body styles: LCV (two-seater) and Kombi (five-seater), as well as two powertrain types.

Depending on your choice of body and wheelbase lengths (there will be two options in either case), the cargo area may vary from 3.1 to 3.7 cubic meters. The nominal cargo capacity is 820 kilogams.

The interior gets two 10-inch displays, heated seats and steering wheel and a wireless charger. Judging by the photos, the cabin doesn’t look much different from the Tourneo Connect introduced way back in 2021.

The five-seater version gets a second seat row that can be folded up and installed vertically right behind the front seats as an improvised partition. Ford claims the whole process takes mere seconds.

Powertrain-wise, the default option is a plug-in hybrid based on a 1.5-liter petrol engine, an electric motor and a six-speed DCT. The combined output doesn’t exceed 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, but you get up to 110 km (68 miles) of all-electric range.

The alternative is a 2.0-liter diesel obtainable in two boost variants: 102 PS (101 hp / 76 kW) and 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW). The former is restricted to six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, while the latter can be optioned with a seven-speed DCT and four driven wheels.

The production starts this spring. The diesels are expected to arrive first, followed by the hybrid closer to the end of the year. The Kombi minivan and the all-wheel drive option will not be available until 2025, though.
