Geely unveiled the fifth generation of its Emgrand sedan last fall, launching it with two 1.5-liter petrol engine options. The company has now introduced a mild-hybrid variant to the lineup, prioritizing fuel economy over raw performance.
In case you missed it, the new Emgrand can be ordered with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine rated at 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) and its turbocharged counterpart capable of 181 PS (17 hp / 133 kW).
The new i-HEV spec takes a naturally aspirated block with 112 PS (110 hp / 81 kW) and 136 Nm (100 lb-ft) and mates it with a single electric motor rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft).
It doesn’t sound like much, but Geely promises a fuel economy in the general area of 3.83 liters per 100 kilometers, WLTC mixed-cycle. The U.S. equivalent would be 61.4 miles per gallon.
The Geely Emgrand i-HEV is largely identical to its ICE sibling, although you can option it with larger 17-inch wheels. There are three trim levels to choose from, with climate control, a 10.2-inch digital dash, a 14.6-inch infotainment system and a basic cruise control system all listed under the standard trim. Paying extra gets you heated/ventilated seats and a handful of ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control.
