Geely’s next large and rugged SUV completes winter tests in China

Geely has successfully wrapped up tests of its full-size Galaxy Cruiser SUV. First seen at the last year’s Auto Shanghai expo, the vehicle copycats the Land Rover Defender and is billed as a rugged unibody SUV for adventurous souls.

Based on the images, the Galaxy Cruiser retains the boxy outlines of its concept version along with a hinged door for the tailgate, but lost two out of three roof-mounted LiDARs. The bumpers look new as well, but it’s hard to make out individual details due to all the wrapping.

From the technical standpoint, the Galaxy Cruiser is a plug-in hybrid based on the same platform as the Zeekr 9X (albeit with modifications). Geely remains tight-lipped regarding the powertrains, but its own Galaxy M9 PHEV utilizes a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a trio of electric motors. Their combined output comes to 870 PS (858 hp / 640 kW). We expect something similar here as well.

For those eager to go exploring, Geely promises plenty of off-road assist features and the ability to wade shallow rivers at ~8 km/h (~5 mph). The SUV comes equipped with the company’s G-Pilot H7 assist package comprising three dozen cameras and sensors along with an Nvidia Drive Thor chipset for real-time processing.

Sales remain scheduled for late 2026.
