The Hongqi E-LS is a Shanghai show car envisioned with Level 5 self-driving tech on board. The company promises us something like it in production in a few years, although it is too early to talk details.
Compared to the luxury carmaker’s current lineup, the oversized radiator grille is about the only thing in common. The rest is styled in a rather atypical fashion for Hongqi, with a bit of Bentley Bentayga design seemingly mixed in. The curves are soft, the headlights appear encrusted with gems, and the taillights are multi-tier horizontal stripes.
The rear doors swing open against the direction of movement like on Rolls-Royce cars, easing getting in and out of the back row. The cabin offers plenty of legroom with only two seats next to each other and another seat at the front, which faces a large display. It looks like the third seat is there for an operator inputting navigation commands, as there are no traditional car controls anywhere in sight.
The E-LS first debuted last fall as a 3D-rendered design study.
