Hyundai is already running multiple assembly sites in North America, but the impending 25-percent tariffs on imported vehicles and parts demand still more localization.
The Korean automaker is expected to invest a total of $21 billion into the U.S. economy. $5.8 billion from this amount will go into a construction of an all-new bodywork plant.
It is also worth mentioning that Hyundai has recently commissioned its ambitious Metaplant complex in Georgia. It is already assembling Ioniq 5 EVs and gearing up for the production of the full-size Ioniq 9 SUV EV.
The Metaplant was envisioned with an initial production capacity of 200,000 units per year. Hyundai is now considering ramping it up to 500,000 units to avoid the tariffs.
