Hyundai recalls half a million SUVs over safety concerns

The U.S. version of the Hyundai Palisade comes equipped with 10 airbags as standard, but this apparent care about safety is what just prompted the manufacturer to recall 568,576 vehicles.

As the NHTSA discovered a while ago during planned tests, the side-mounted passenger airbags in the back row of the Palisade could trigger incorrectly and cause injuries. We don’t have any details yet beside this vaguely worded statement, so we cannot say if the issue only manifests after a collision or even during normal driving.

For its own part, Hyundai reported receiving zero injury reports or complains that it could link to this alleged issue. Nonetheless, more than half a million Palisades are now being recalled nationwide. Whether any faulty airbag units found will be replaced or repaired remains to be seen.

A few months ago, Hyundai recalled more than 50,000 Tucson SUVs over a short circuit and fire risk.
