Jeep Compass 4e goes off-roading in Europe

Jeep has released new details regarding the upcoming Compass 4xe hybrid SUV for the Old Continent. It is being advertised as the most capable Compass off-roader ever built thanks to revised body and suspension. The sales won’t begin until the final quarter of 2025, so let’s take a look in the meantime.

Compared to the standard version, the 4xe has an extra 10 mm (0.4”) of ground clearance. While the standard SUV has a so-so approach angle of 20 degrees and a departure angle of just 26 degrees, the 4xe for Europe has 27 and 31 degrees, respectively. This is made possible by the new, optimized bumpers. An undercarriage shield protects the drivetrain, there is a single recovery hook for emergencies and an anti-glare sticker on the hood. 19-inch standard wheels come wrapped in high-profile tires.

The interior upholstery is mainly fabric with some polyurethane material woven in for extra wear resistance and ease of cleaning. The rear bench in particular was trimmed to prevent scratches and tears in the cloth from hauling stuff, and the mats all around were replaced with more long-lasting ones. Black and brown were deliberately picked as the main colors to minimize visible dirt stains. According to Jeep, all these modifications were made with real adventurers in mind.

On the technical side of things, all we know right now is that the car has a dedicated drive preset called Off-Road. It automatically adjusts torque distribution based on the current surface conditions.

It is still a mystery what powertrains the Jeep Compass 4xe for Europe will ship with. In the United States, the 4xe designation was supposed to be used solely for FWD hybrids, while the European SUV might be AWD for all we know. A while ago, Jeep said that only the fully electric Compass would have the four-wheel drive. It also quoted superior approach and departure angles for the EV that fully coincide with those we quoted above. Looks like we will have to wait until Q4 to find out.
