Reports: Kia Rio bound to leave Europe

The South Korean automotive giant plans to stop Kia Rio sales in the Old World countries, Autocar reports citing anonymous sources. Apparently, the company is not satisfied with all B-class vehicle sales in the region, not just the Rio.

Customers in Europe bought 32,500 Rio units last year. To put things into perspective the Opel Corsa found 164,000 new owners over the same period.

It is unknown when the production might stop in Europe, but Autocar believes it could be very soon, because the dealerships are apparently no longer taking reservations for the Rio, probably just selling the leftover stock.

In all likelihood, the Kia Rio will be replaced by the Stonic model in Europe, which is based on the same architecture.
