The Classic division of Land Rover has rolled out a stylish restomod based on the first-generation Defender – and more are coming.
When working on the donor material, Classic takes care to pick only the best SUVs for restoration. The 2010s-era Defenders tend to be in the best overall shape and thus generally make the best restomods. Customers can choose between two modifications: 90 and 110.
Interestingly, every car gets swapped to a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 and a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels. The standard output is at 411 PS (405 hp / 302 kW).
Land Rover then upgrades the rest of the car to better handle the new drivetrain. This includes Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, anti-sway bars and four-piston Alcon brake calipers with rotors sized 335 mm at the front and 300 mm at the back.
The exterior stays largely true to the original, but with some novelty sprinkled on top. The headlights have LEDs inside, the seats are modern and sports-ready, and there is a tiny 3.5-inch navigation display on the dash that the original simply didn’t have.
Buyers can freely choose from a wide range of available colors, trim materials and combinations, and optional equipment such as winches, floodlights, roof racks etc.
Prices start from £190,000 for a Defender 90 and from £199,000 for a Defender 110. The 20% VAT is not included.
