Defender 130 makes for a luxurious, yet impractical truck

The Land Rover conversion gurus over at Heritage Customs have built what they claim to be the world’s first Defender 130 in a pickup truck body. Ordering is already available from around £57,000 (€65,000 / $75,000), and shipping usually takes 8-12 weeks.

As you may remember, the first 3D sketches of this conversion cropped up in June 2024. The final result is now here, and it looks like it was never an SUV in the first place – the craftsmanship is just that good. The body kit is stylish and lends a timeless look to the black-and-white exterior of the Defender pickup. The interior uses a mixture of light brown and black leather and suede with some black plastic trim for contrast.

Where the project falls short is practicality, or so it seems. The cargo bed spans a meager 1,000 mm (39 inches) long and just 1,400 mm (55 inches) wide, so it’s not that different from a regular trunk and is more of a fashion statement. And while that supercharged V8 under the hood is good for 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW), we cannot imagine many owners going off-roading in their expensive Defenders.

But if you are one of the few who is interested and solvent enough to afford one, then consider than another such project is currently being worked on by Urban Automotive, a UK-based subsidiary of Heritage Customs. You will find its version of the Defender pickup at the end of the gallery above and in the video. As you can see, it looks a fair bit bolder and more aggressive. If you would rather get that one, then stay tuned for its scheduled premiere at the next year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
