New automaker Lepas rolls out a trio of SUVs for Indonesia

Lepas, a Chery Group company specializing in crossover utility vehicles for the Indonesian market, has come to the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show with as many as three new cars named the L4, L6 and L8.

The L4 is categorized as a B-SUV on the local market and is approximately 4.3 meters long with 2.6 meters of wheelbase. That’s comparable with the dimensions of the Chery Tiggo 4. While Lepas has yet to reveal any details, this model will likely be much cheaper than both the L8 and the L6.

The L6 looks similar to its smaller cousin, especially in the department of the oval blacked-out grille, but is visibly bigger. It also has a fairly modern design vibe to it thanks to a vertical infotainment screen in the middle and a transmission selector located at the steering column.

The L6 is the obvious flagship of the lineup, being 4,688 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,695 mm tall with 2.8 meters of wheelbase. That’s about as big as the Chery Tiggo 8. PaulTan.org reports that it will go on sale with two hybrid drivetrains to choose from – mild and plug-in. Both will be based on a fifth-gen, 1.5-liter, Acteco-series engine. The manufacturer estimates that the L8 should only consume 4.5 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers of mixed-cycle driving and cover 1,300 kilometers on a full tank and battery.

Chery launched the Lepas sub-brand in China in late 2024. Back then, the parent company simply explained that it wanted a separate nameplate for Chery vehicles with sported-up exteriors. It never mentioned any plans to introduce these vehicles outside of China, so the Indonesia show debut caught us by surprise.
