Reports: Lexus UX EV is no more, but hybrid carries on

According to Auto Express quoting Lexus dealerships in the UK, the production and sales of the first all-electric Lexus – the compact-sized UX – are all wrapped up now. The model saw the daylight in 2019 (see video) and underwent a facelift in 2022.

The UX 300e was the first fully electric Lexus on the road. It arrived with an optimistic range claim of 400 kilometers (248 miles) per the NEDC standard, while factual measurements showed it being closer to 235 km (146 miles). The facelift brought it new looks and up to 450 km (280 miles) of NEDC-rated range, but it never became a sales hit.

With the electric UX now out of the picture, its hybrid counterpart stays available. Same goes for the more modern, larger and technologically advanced Lexus RZ. The latter even has 500 km (310 miles) of range on a charge – better than the UX could manage with its biggest battery pack.

Rumor has it another EV is underway to the Lexus lineup next year, most likely based on the IS sedan platform. The ES family is also going to get electrified in its upcoming next generation, offering a choice between hybrid and all-electric powertrains, but no old-school ICE engines.
