Low range, serious off-road chops: Isuzu D-Max EV bows in Europe

Isuzu has electrified its D-Max pickup truck for the European market. With only 263 kilometers (163 miles) of available range, it seems to be a rather niche vehicle, but the company claims it makes up for it by being a capable off-roader.

Prices have so far only been revealed in the UK, where the cheapest version costs £59,995. You could buy two entry-level diesel equivalents for that amount, but we suppose it’s not the point. At any rate, the first deliveries won’t be made until February 2026.

The D-Max EV sends 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels from its two e-motors. It needs 10.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and cannot exceed 130 km/h (80 mph). Recharging its 66.9-kWh lithium-ion battery pack from 20 to 80 percent takes about an hour.

The company doesn’t hide the fact that the truck is based on the same platform as its ICE cousin, but highlights that the frame and the rear suspension were upgraded to withstand the weight of the electric powertrain. As a result, the EV can carry around a metric ton (2,200 lbs) of cargo while hauling another 3.5 metric tons (7,700 lbs) in a trailer. It can also wade water up to 600 mm (23.4 inches) high and traverse rough terrain with its 210 mm (8.2 inches) of ground clearance.

Aside from added blue accents, the exterior looks almost unchanged from the ICE version. In keeping with the theme, Isuzu even put the charging port where the gas tank filler port was.

Buyers can choose from three trim levels and decide whether they need one or two seat rows.
