The mid-engined Maserati MC20 has set an official top speed record for self-driving vehicles.
Racing on a 4.5-kilometer (2.8-mile) long runway strip, the supercar has managed to reach 318.2 km/h, or 197.7 miles per hour. That’s a considerable improvement from the 310.3 km/h (192.8 mph) reported by the company several months ago.
It may have been just a straight-line acceleration and braking test, but it’s nonetheless impressive how close the car came to its rated top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph).
