Mercedes-AMG E63 S rides on ultralight Barracuda wheels

612 metric horsepower, 850 Newton-meters of torque, a launch time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h – a while ago, we would firmly associate these specs with supercars. Today, any luxury sedan like this Mercedes-AMG E63 S can be expected to pack this kind of power – and powerful cars need lightweight and sturdy rims to carry them around.

An appealing aftermarket solution comes from Barracuda Racing Wheels, which proposes a set of 21-inch Ultralight Project 2.0 rims for the opulent E-Class sedan. The wheel is forged using an approach known as the flow forming, which enables the manufacturer to reduce its weight drastically while keeping the material strengths exceptionally high. Black brushed rims with thin dual spokes look perfect inside their respective arches thanks to a 40mm (1.6”) drop in ride height.

The one thing that remains unexplained is why Barracuda chose to use the version 2.0 of the wheel set, when the version 3.0 has been available since this spring (see video). Perhaps we will be seeing that one on the E-Class in the near future, too.
