Mercedes-AMG (sort of) produces an electric scooter

The latest low-effort release from the AMG division is a battery scooter with underwhelming parameters.

Dubbed the Mercedes-AMG E-Scooter, the ride has been designed by neither Mercedes-Benz nor AMG. Instead, it is a rebadged Micro Explorer S, a mass-produced e-scooter made by Micro Mobility Systems AG.

The parameters stay the same: the battery holds 450 watt-hours of power and lasts up to 40 kilometers (25 miles). The electric motor makes 0.7 horsepower (500W) and peaks at 20 km/h (12.4 mph). Charging from zero to 100% takes between 2.1 and 3.5 hours (yes, decimal hours is what the manufacturer reports).

Unlike most such rides, this one eschews the acceleration trigger in favor of a motorbike-style twist throttle grip. There are as many as three brakes on board: an electric front wheel brake, a drum brake at the rear end, and an emergency brake you can apply by stepping on the rear fender, pressing it slightly against the wheel.

The handlebar notably has a smartphone mount, and the scooter syncs its data with a dedicated mobile app. Rounding things off are a headlight at the front, a brake light at the back and a bike bell. If you haven’t noticed by now, the AMG-branded version of the Micro Explorer S lacks any special features, options or even trim details aside from the badging.
