Reports: Mercedes-Benz EQB is gone for good

Following the demise of the all-electric EQE sedan and EQE mid-size SUV, the compact EQB crossover is now also on its way out, claims Motor1 quoting an interview with the automaker. The car only went in production in 2021.

Apparently, the company representative never explicitly confirmed that the EQB was dead, but said that it would be pulled from the markers of Canada and the USA before the end of the year. They also mentioned an “end of production cycle”, strongly hinting at the company’s decision to replace the sorely underperforming EQB with an all-new model rather than trying to save it with a facelift.

In fact, the petite electric SUV received some nip-and-tuck two years ago. It ended up with a revised exterior and a bigger 70.5-kWh battery pack, but retained its standard engine lineup. Trapped between 190 and 292 PS (187–288 hp / 140–215 kW), the feeble e-motor selection never managed to outshine the competition.

The German Mercedes website has no mentions of the EQB anymore, but the car is still available for ordering in the United States. Buyers can choose between just one or two e-motors and can expect to pay at least $53,050 before options.

Moving forward, Mercedes plans to expand its electric crossover lineup with at least two new models. Rumors say that he existing CLA will be accompanied by an upmarket model and an affordable CUV similar to the EQB, but hopefully somewhat more attractive.
