The John Cooper Works is a particularly powerful version of the Mini Cooper hatchback armed with a two-liter turbo-four engine normally tuned to 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW). The example in the latest video by AutoTopNL has much more thrust than that, though, and demonstrates its prowess on a speedway in Germany.
The tune-up lets the drivetrain deliver up to 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW) to the wheels. The video shows four acceleration attempts, and in one of those the hot hatch actually exceeds its rated top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph). But more on that later.
From the onset, you can hear it is not a stock Mini JCW. The author starts off by taking it to 224 km/h (139 mph) in seemingly no time at all. He then has trouble reaching that acceleration in his second attempt, but scores 237 km/h (147 mph) in his third one. Finally, he floors the pedal with hardly any traffic in sight and manages to push the speedometer needle all the way to 255 km/h (158.4 mph).
