Car Tuning

Zagato-bodied Lancia Hyena exotic can be yours for $0.25M

A rare Lancia Hyena, essentially a Delta HF Integrale tuned for the Netherlands market around three decades ago, has cropped up at RM Sotheby’s in the USA with a cool asking price of $250,000. Let’s see what it packs to justify that price.

Paul Koot, a Dutch entrepreneur, was a fan of the Alfa Romeo Giulia “Sprint” project by Zagato and wanted to import something similar in his country. He talked with the Italian coachbuilder and arranged for a small batch of Lancia Hyena cars to be built. The first concept debuted in 1992 with an all-new body and kit as well as an engine boost to 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW). It was one-third of a second faster at sprinting than the donor.

The production, however, proved to be a major challenge for Koot, who had to bring in HF Integrale models himself and hand them over to Zagato for modification. Only 24 vehicles were made in total.

The example on sale received a complete restoration three years ago that saw its body finished in a different color and its engine rebuilt and further tuned to deliver 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW). With a touch over 31,000 km (a touch under 20,000 miles) on the counter, it is reportedly in great condition.
