Nissan X-Trail dials up ruggedness Down Under with N-Trek Edition

Nissan has revealed a new trim called N-Trek for the X-Trail SUV in Australia. It’s a purely cosmetic pack and you cannot buy it with a hybrid powertrain like the normal X-Trail – a regular 2.5L engine is your only option.

Starting with the exterior, the SUV wears a darkened trim with slightly more aggressive styling cues. The latter category includes a new front bumper with special accents around the fog lights. Some of the paint options are available with a contrasting black roof, and the 18-inch wheels seen here are new, too.

Inside, the main novelty comes in the form of water-resistant eco-leather on the seats – but its optional. The N-Trek is being advertised as the family car for outdoor leisure and sports enthusiasts, so having seats that won’t get soggy from your clothes looks like a fair selling point.

Things stay unchanged in the powertrain department, where a 2.5-liter drives the front wheels through a CVT with 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW) and 244 Nm (180 lb-ft) of torque. You can opt for AWD, but it isn’t exclusive to the N-Trek version.

The previous generation of the SUV was also obtainable in this modification, but it was limited to just 500 units. In contrast, the current version will be produced to match whatever demand there is for it. Nissan stays silent on whether it may later offer this package outside of Australia.
