Mid-engined Pontiac Fiero SE with a rich background crops up on sale

Cars & Bids is offering a unique 1984 Pontiac Fiero that was rebuilt from scratch using parts from numerous other cars. Armed with a transaxle Cadillac Northstar V8 mated to a Porsche five-speed manual gearbox, it used to win show awards and participate in races. It is currently being traded for $4,800, but we expect the bidding to liven up towards the closing.

Apparently, this particular Fiero SE took more than 20 years to finalize. The build began in 2003 with the original owner lengthening the chassis by 31 cm (1 ft) and upgrading it with Chevrolet Corvette brakes and suspension parts. He then installed the injection engine, but topped it off with Dellorto carburetors for some reason. A performance exhaust system with centered pipes and a bold aero kit rounded off the initial build.

The interior was later overhauled with what looks like older Camaro seats, an Audi TT gear lever, a Pontiac Firebird center console and an aftermarket audio system. It’s not fared that well through the years, though, with the odometer broken and true mileage unknown. The seller also admits that idle running gets rough, so some maintenance may be required before it rides again. It was only imported from Canada in 2022, so all gauges are metric.

On the upside, the builder’s actions are documented on a popular online forum where he shared his entire reasoning behind the project and described every minute detail. The car has a few show awards, several owners in the title, and even entered an Indy race at some point – after all, the original idea was to build an actual “Indy Fiero”, per the author. We are unaware of any racing accolades it may have won, though.
