Video: Kalmar 7-97 RS-R Evo withstands the colds of Lapland

Danish tuning company Kalmar Automotive has updated its top-notch rally car, the Kalmar 7-97 RS-R. In its Evo guise, it sports an unprecedently lightweight body and a flexible suspension setup for a variety of off-road scenarios.

Extensive use of carbon fiber and the removal of all unnecessary equipment has allowed Kalmar to reduce the curb weight to just 1,125 kg (2,480 lbs). It’s especially impressive if you consider that the car still retains its 4.1-liter flat-six engine. It can rev up to 7,000 RPM and pushes out approximately 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) to the rear wheels.

The exterior is clearly inspired by the retro-tastic Porsche 911 S/T. Unlike that car, the restomod benefits from a rigid steel frame, additional braces to keep it stable under loads, and active suspension. The ground clearance can be fine-tuned and goes up to 250 mm (9.8 inches).

The conversion can be carried out with a Porsche 911 964 or 993 as a starting point. As you’d expect, it’s far from cheap with a base price of €580,000. Check out the video for a glimpse of one finished example having fun in the snows of Finnish Lapland at –29 ºC (–20 ºF).
