Nissan announces a wallet-friendly compact van for emerging markets

The financially struggling Nissan continues rebadging other manufacturers’ cars: the recently announced Gravite compact van for India has its own styling cues but mostly copies the local Renault Triber (see video).

Based on the images available thus far, the newcomer features its own radiator grille and bumpers, as well as new LED patterns in the headlights and taillights. The rest stays more or less the same. The Triber spans only 3,985 millimeters (155.7 inches) long to take advantage of tax benefits on its domestic market, and the Gravite seems to be about as small.

The Triber also comes powered by a 1.0-liter engine rated at 72 PS (71 hp / 53 kW) and 96 Nm (71 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission can be five-speed manual or five-speed dual-clutch. We won’t be surprised to see Nissan copy the powertrain, too.

Billed as a highly affordable seven-seater for families with low income, the Gravite is set to debut on January 21, 2026. It may later be exported to other developing countries.
