Rolls-Royce gets rid of Dawn & Wraith

Speaking in an interview to Autocar, Rolls-Royce CEO Thorsten Müller-Ötvös confirmed that the company was no longer taking orders for vehicles based on old-gen Ghost platform. This means that both the Dawn and the Wraith will go out of production in 2023 with no immediate replacement planned for either.

The Wraith debuted ten years ago, while the Dawn followed two years after that. Both come powered by a 6.6-liter 12-cylinder engine rated at 632 PS (623 hp / 465 kW) in tandem with a ZF eight-speed automatic. The Wraith needs 4.5 seconds for its standard sprint. The Ghost sedan went into the next generation in the fall of 2020, while its coupe-shaped relative stayed as is.

Starting in 2023, Rolls-Royce plans to phase out both models and introduce an all-electric coupe named Spectre. It is the marque’s first EV, and it is still running pre-production tests. The manufacturer says it will be a standalone model not comparable to any current RR vehicles. Its sales are set to begin in late 2023.

In terms of size, the Specte will be closer to the current flagship saloon, the Phantom. It will run on Architecture of Luxury, a state-of-the-art aluminum chassis that the latest Ghost also uses. The company emphasizes that the platform will be additionally upgraded for the Spectre to ensure it stays at the cutting edge of progress.
