GM hints at a possible Chevrolet Suburban HD

Tim Herrick, one of the top managers of General Motors, has let it slip that a Heavy Duty version of the new Chevy Suburban may be underway to the market.

In order to turn the standard Suburban into an HD model, it would have to receive frame and suspension reinforcements along with Silverado HD-like cabin and equipment. However, since both share the same platform, the latter point should prove relatively simple.

The last year’s Suburban HD (shown in our gallery and the video here) came powered by a six-lirter V8 rated at 355 hp (/ 265 kW) and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed auto transmission sent the thrust to all four wheels. It could carry up to 1,998 kg (4,405 lbs) of cargo and started from U.S. $80,215.

In turn, the alleged 2021 Suburban Heavy Duty may land with a ten-speed transmission, the same AWD system as before, and a 6.6-liter V8 rated at 451 hp (336 kW) and 1,234 Nm (910 lb-ft) of torque. Having said that, no official figures have been published.
