Some car tuning enthusiasts seem to believe that one massive turbocharger is preferable to a dual setup. This may ring true with regard to smaller engines, but don’t let overconfidence take over you and make you challenge a ride 500 HP above your level.
The video here stars a fourth-gen Supra and a Dodge Viper, both turbocharged the hell out of. The Japanese coupe uses an automatic transmission to hit the wheels with 811 PS (800 hp / 597 kW). The 2JZ-GTE engine is still present under the hood, but tune-specific details besides “big turbo” are scarce.
As for the Dodge Viper, the supercar has been treated to dual 67mm turbochargers by Calvo Motorsports. Out went the stock six-speed manual gearbox, and a PPG sequential transmission took its place. The ECU was reprogrammed to support quick selection of desired power output and the fuel used. As a result, the Viper slams the rear wheels with all of 1,318 PS (1,300 hp / 969 kW).
The rather spectacular race sees the Supra pull ahead confidently at first, but the Viper quickly asserts that half a thousand extra horses are no joke as it effortlessly overtakes it and stays in the lead.
