GM and Samsung SDI team up on an EV battery factory project

Electric vehicles may not be at their pinnacle right now, but General Motors and Samsung SDI try to look past the short-lived market trends as they begin constructing a new traction battery plant in Indiana, USA.

The industrial complex is expected to create 1,600 jobs and produce 36 gigawatt-hours’ worth of battery cells per year. GM had originally intended to build similar industrial facilities with LG Chem, but later broke off the agreement.

As for Samsung SDI, the company has been cooperating with Stellantis for a while now. The two businesses plan to join efforts on building two new battery plants in the States, one of them in Indiana where GM is already constructing one.
